Elo TouchSystems Monitors in the Argentine House of Commons That's all been replaced with the help of Elo TouchSystems touch monitors. Outfitted with custom software, these new systems allow members of Congress to review laws and documentation, conduct research online and even vote on legislation using their fingerprints. Fernando Navarro, Distributor Manager for Elo TouchSystems in Buenos Aires, led the installation of the monitors, along with local distributor Eleven S.R.L. and experts from the University of La Plata, where the software was developed. "There were many papers but no computers at the lawmakers' desks in the chamber," says Fernando. "The new touchscreen technology is easy and intuitive and the legislators have all adapted easily to it." Each of the 92 members of Congress has a 12-inch monitor featuring Elo TouchSystems AccuTouch touch technology - chosen because of its ability to handle touches from fingers, long fingernails and even pens. The President of the House of Commons and its Secretaries also use the new system, which can show which members are present and display their votes on a large screen for all to see. Leandro Garcia, Information Technology Director of the Chamber of Deputies for Buenos Aires, says, "These improvements have helped ensure transparency in the voting process, while digitizing all phases of legislation - from inception to when it becomes law - and giving our members immediate access to online resources and our law database." Fernando says the success of the project has prompted interest from other governing entities, including the City of Buenos Aires, after a congressman was recently caught on camera casting a vote from another official's desk. "It makes me proud to know our technology can help ensure integrity and efficiency among those in power," he says. |
